I UNDERSTAND
CHRONIC PAIN
FROM THE
PERSPECTIVE OF THE
INJURED.
Not the clinician. Not the researcher. Not the expert with a wall of credentials and a waiting room full of people who aren't getting better. The injured. The person who built their entire day around it.

THE ROAD THAT BROUGHT ME HERE.
I was a professional rugby player. I competed across five continents. I was the kind of person who pushed through pain because that's what the game demanded — and because I didn't know there was another way.
The injury came at eighteen. L5-S1. Full rupture. The beginning of what would become a decade on the conveyor belt — physio, chiro, medication, injections, more physio. Each intervention bought me time. None of it bought me freedom.
I kept playing. I kept competing. And I kept getting worse.
The surgery came eventually — as it always does when you stay on that belt long enough. My surgeon took one look at my MRI and offered me a Tuesday morning. Post-surgery, he told me it was the worst case he had ever operated on. That he couldn't believe I had been walking — let alone playing professional rugby.
Not a humble brag. A thing none the less.
THE ROOM CHRONIC PAIN CREATES
There is a room that chronic pain creates. Cold. Dark. Lonely. A room of one.
I spent too many years inside it. The shame of feeling broken. The financial drain of endless appointments that kept your head above water while you slowly, depressingly got worse. The mental weight that no one talks about — the kind that doesn't just wear the body down, it breaks the mind.
The growing isolation from the people you love. The frustration of doing everything right — everything the system told you to do — while not getting any better. While slowly but surely getting worse.
And the slow disappearance of yourself. So gradual. So quiet. You almost don't feel it happening. And then one day you look up and ask: who am I now?
"Surviving is rare. Thriving is an anomaly."
I know the room. I know every corner of it. And I know the door.
THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGED.
In my darkest moment — through desperation, despair, and utter defeat — I turned to body rolling. And for the first time I felt something profound shift inside my body. I could do it at home. Any time. Any part of my body. For as long as I needed. And slowly, undeniably, the pain backed off.
"It was like discovering fire."
I had been looking for a solution in the hands of other people for years. And the answer had been inside my own body the entire time — waiting for the right tool and the right understanding to unlock it.
I built the Bula Ball to share that discovery. I spent the next eighteen years building a relationship with my fascial system, my core system, and my nervous system that I never knew was possible.
Eight months after my surgery, I played beach rugby. Twenty years later I am still surfing, still skiing, still on the floor with my kids.
WHY NOTHING YOU'VE TRIED HAS WORKED.
The chronic pain industry is not built to set you free. The physio sees the muscle. The chiropractor sees the spine. The surgeon sees the disc. Nobody was looking at the picture the pieces were supposed to make.
I had no choice but to find it. Not because I was a researcher — because I was desperate. A mechanical fitter's instinct applied to the one system I knew better than anyone: my own body in chronic pain.
What I built was eventually validated by Dr Robert Schleip — the world's leading fascia researcher. It turns out what I had discovered by necessity, the science had been quietly proving from the other direction.
The result is the E.S.C.A.P.E System. Six phases. Built on a body that was broken and needed to work again. Every element tested against the only laboratory that matters — lived human experience.
"I'm the only one who can."
I am now ready to share everything I know — and to reach as many people as I can, as quickly as I can.

THE SYSTEM NOBODY EVER GAVE YOU. UNTIL NOW.
The E.S.C.A.P.E Foundation Series is where that relationship begins. Four booklets. Everything the system never taught you. The foundation the Bula Ball Method was built on.
